Quantum Charged Spinning Particles in a Strong Magnetic Field (a Quantal Guiding Center Theory)
نویسنده
چکیده
A quantal guiding center theory allowing to systematically study the separation of the different time scale behaviours of a quantum charged spinning particle moving in an external inhomogeneous magnetic filed is presented. A suitable set of operators adapting to the canonical structure of the problem and generalizing the kinematical momenta and guiding center operators of a particle coupled to a homogenous magnetic filed is constructed. The Pauli Hamiltonian rewrites in this way as a power series in the magnetic length lB = √ h̄c/eB making the problem amenable to a perturbative analysis. The first two terms of the series are explicitly constructed. The effective adiabatic dynamics turns to be in coupling with a gauge filed and a scalar potential. The mechanism producing such magnetic-induced geometric-magnetism is investigated in some detail. short title: A Quantal Guiding Center Theory PACS: 03.65.-w, 02.40+m, 52.20.Dq, 02.90.+p

Adiabatic Motion of a Quantum Particle in a Two-Dimensional Magnetic Field
The adiabatic motion of a charged, spinning, quantum particle in a two dimensional magnetic field is studied. A suitable set of operators generalizing the cinematical momenta and the guiding center operators of a particle moving in a homogeneous magnetic field is constructed. This allows us to separate the two degrees of freedom of the system into a fast and a slow one, in the classical limit, ...
متن کاملFrom liquid crystal models to the guiding-center theory of magnetized plasmas
Upon combining Northrop’s picture of charged particle motion with modern liquid crystal theories, this paper provides a new description of guiding center dynamics (to lowest order). This new perspective is based on a rotation gauge field (gyrogauge) that encodes rotations around the magnetic field. In liquid crystal theory, an analogue rotation field is used to encode the rotational state of ro...
متن کاملInteraction of charged particles with localized electrostatic waves in a magnetized plasma.
Charged particle interaction with localized wave packets in a magnetic field is formulated using the canonical perturbation theory and the Lie transform theory. An electrostatic wave packet characterized by a wide range of group and phase velocities as well as spatial extent along and across the magnetic field is considered. The averaged changes in the momentum along the magnetic field, the ang...

Introduction: Integrated radiation therapy - MRI systems are capable of delivering high doses to the target tissues near sensitive organs and achieve better therapeutic results; however, the Applied magnetic fields for imaging, can influence the charged path, change the penetration depth and deflect the particles, laterally, leading to dose distribution variations. Therefore, i...
متن کامل2 Behaviour of three charged particles on a plane under perpendicular magnetic field
We consider the problem of three identical charged particles on a plane under a perpendicular magnetic field and interacting through Coulomb repulsion. This problem is treated within Taut's framework, in the limit of vanishing center of mass vector R → 0, which corresponds to the strong magnetic field limit, occuring for example in the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect. Using the solutions of the ...
